Damietta Governorate tour packages cover a Mediterranean corner of the Nile Delta where the river meets the sea. The governorate is known for the seaside resort town of Ras El Bar, with its sandy shore, promenade and a pretty lighthouse at the river mouth, and for the city of Damietta, famed for its furniture workshops and sweets. Local seafood and fish dishes are excellent. It is an authentic, Egyptian-style holiday destination rather than an international one, best visited between May and September for the beach.

June to September is the beach season, with warm sea water, while April and October are comfortable for sightseeing. Winters are cool and breezy.
