El Alamein tour packages visit the site of the pivotal Second World War battles of 1942, with Commonwealth, German and Italian cemeteries standing beside the sea. The El Alamein War Museum displays uniforms, weapons and maps, and the Commonwealth cemetery is a moving, well-kept place. A few kilometres away, New Alamein is a modern coastal city with towers, a marina and white-sand beaches. It makes an interesting stop between Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh.
