Monufia Governorate tour packages cover a green, densely farmed corner of the central Nile Delta, between the Rosetta and Damietta branches of the river. The provincial capital Shibin El Kom is a busy market and university city, and the village of Mit Abu El-Kom is the birthplace of President Anwar Sadat. There are no major tourist monuments here, so the governorate is best for travellers who want to see rural Egypt, with canals, orchards, poultry farms and village life. It is easily visited on a day trip from Cairo, and spring offers the greenest scenery.

March to May and October to November are comfortable, with green fields and mild weather. Summer is hot and humid across the Delta.
A single day is enough for Shibin El Kom and a drive through the villages. Overnight stays are basic.
Shibin El Kom is roughly 80 km north of Cairo and takes around 1.5 hours by road. Trains also run on the Cairo–Alexandria line.
