Gambela tour packages are rarely sold. The region in the far west of Ethiopia borders South Sudan and has hot, humid lowlands, wide rivers and wetlands. The Anuak, Nuer and other peoples live along the Baro River, and the regional capital Gambela is a river port. Gambella National Park protects savannah and swamp where the migrating white-eared kob once travelled in great herds, and hippos and crocodiles can be seen. Because of tensions and the proximity to South Sudan, governments advise against travel to Gambela, so this region is not suitable for a normal holiday.
