Northern tour packages take you into the savannah of Dagbon, a proud kingdom with its own festivals, music and architecture. Tamale is the lively regional capital and the gateway to the north, with a busy central market and famous fugu smock weavers. Yendi is the seat of the Ya-Na, the paramount chief of Dagbon, and the setting for the Damba festival. Savelugu is known for its smock and bead crafts, and the countryside has mud-built mosques, baobabs and wide skies. The north is hotter and drier than the coast.
