Mandera County tourism is virtually non-existent, since this remote county sits in Kenya’s far north-east where the borders of Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia meet. The landscape is flat, hot semi-desert where Somali pastoralists herd camels and goats, and Mandera town sits on the Daua River. There are almost no tourist facilities. Most governments advise against travel to Mandera County because of terrorism and security threats, and visitors should not plan leisure trips here.

January to March and July to September are marginally cooler. Conditions are hot and arid year-round.
Mandera is not a standard tourist destination, so a trip would be brief and for specific business or research purposes.
Mandera has a small airstrip with flights from Nairobi, but the town is a long way from other population centres. Plan with local contacts and a reputable operator.
