Wajir County tourism is very limited, and the county in Kenya’s far north-east is chiefly a pastoral region of semi-desert plains, with camel and goat herding at the heart of local culture. The Somali community lives around traditional wells that have long supported the livestock economy, and the lively market in Wajir town is the main hub.Facilities are basic, and few international travellers visit. Governments advise against travel to this border region because of security risks, so check current advisories before planning any trip.

January to March and July to September are slightly cooler and drier. Daytime temperatures are very high for most of the year.
Wajir is not a standard stop, so any trip is brief. Allow at least a night if you are travelling for work or research.
Wajir has a small airstrip with limited flights from Nairobi, and long roads from Garissa and Isiolo. Travel with local contacts and plan carefully.
