Places to visit in Namaqualand are best seen during the flower season in August and September, when the semi-desert is transformed into orange, white and purple daisies after winter rains. The Namaqua National Park, Skilpad, Springbok and the Goegap Nature Reserve are popular viewpoints, though flowers open only in sunshine, usually from late morning. Outside the flower season the area offers quiet coastal villages and dramatic scenery, and it is around five hours from Cape Town.
