June to October is best for the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti, usually July to September. December to March is good for calving on the southern plains.
Three to four nights are the minimum for the Serengeti, and five gives you a better chance of seeing a river crossing.
Most travellers fly from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to airstrips in the Serengeti in about 1.5 hours. By road, the drive from Arusha takes 8 to 9 hours.
