Rukwa Region tourism covers a remote part of south-west Tanzania, between Lake Tanganyika and Lake Rukwa. Kalambo Falls, on the border with Zambia, is one of the highest single-drop waterfalls in Africa at 235 metres, and an important archaeological site with traces of early humans.Sumbawanga is the regional town, set on a high plateau of farmland. Lake Rukwa is a shallow, seasonal lake with hippos, crocodiles and birds. Facilities are minimal, so this is a trip for adventurous travellers.
