June to October is dry and ideal for the coast and hikes. The Usambara hills are cool and misty from March to May.

Tanga is about 5 hours by road from Dar es Salaam or 4 hours from Arusha, and has a small airport with flights from Dar es Salaam. Lushoto is 2 hours inland.
