Gafsa Governorate tour packages cover the mining region of south-west Tunisia, where phosphate has shaped towns and landscapes. The star attraction is the narrow-gauge Red Lizard train from Metlaoui, a former beys’ carriage that runs through the dramatic Seldja Gorge on an old mining line. Gafsa itself is an oasis town with Roman pools and an old kasbah. The region sits on the road between Tozeur and the central plains. Autumn to spring offers pleasant weather, as summer is extremely hot.

October to April has mild weather, and the Red Lizard train usually runs in these months. Summers are extremely hot.
