Khost tourism concerns a fertile, bowl-shaped basin in the south-east, ringed by pine-covered hills and facing the Pakistan border. The province is lush by Afghan standards, with orchards, wheat and rice fields watered by streams, and its Pashtun communities keep strong traditions of hospitality, poetry and tribal gatherings. The provincial capital is a busy trading centre. Tourist services are very limited, so it suits only those interested in rural Pashtun life. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons. Travel advisories from India and most other governments currently recommend against visiting Khost.
