Kunar tourism highlights the forested, steep-sided valleys of the east, on the border with Pakistan and Nuristan. The Kunar River runs through the province, and the capital Asadabad is located where the Pech River joins it. The Pech Valley is one of the greenest parts of Afghanistan, with cedar forests, terraced fields and carved wooden houses, and it is home to unique cultures. Roads are rugged and facilities scarce. Spring and early summer are best. Official advice from India and many other governments is to avoid travel to Kunar at present.
