Paktika tourism is limited to adventurous travellers drawn by the high plateaus and rugged valleys of the south-east. The province borders Pakistan and includes the Katawaz plateau, with open grazing land, pine-clad slopes and traditional Pashtun villages. The capital Sharana is a small town, and Urgun is the busiest trading centre. Winters are cold and summers dry. Few services exist, and journeys are slow, but the landscapes are wide and unspoiled in spring. Please note that travel to Paktika is currently discouraged by most governments, including India’s, because of security risks.
