Takhar tourism covers the fertile north-east, named after the historic region of Tokharistan. The province lies between the Hindu Kush foothills and the Amu Darya, and its capital Taloqan is a green, relaxed town with rice fields, orchards and rivers. The Kokcha River, famous for carrying lapis lazuli from Badakhshan, flows through the region, and Khwaja Bahauddin on the Amu Darya is an old river crossing. Spring and early autumn are the best seasons. Due to ongoing security concerns, India’s Ministry of External Affairs and most governments currently advise against travel to Takhar.
