Sichuan tour packages are a favourite for wildlife and fiery food. Chengdu is the home of the giant panda and hotpot, with teahouses and temples woven through the city. To the south the Leshan Giant Buddha and sacred Mount Emei are UNESCO sites, while to the north Jiuzhaigou has terraced turquoise lakes. Dujiangyan’s ancient irrigation scheme is also within reach. Five days cover Chengdu and one or two sights, with extra days for Jiuzhaigou. April to June and September to November are best.

April to June and September to November bring pleasant weather. Jiuzhaigou is most colourful in autumn, while pandas are most active on spring mornings.
Five days cover Chengdu, the pandas, Leshan and Emei. Add two or three days if you want to include Jiuzhaigou.
Many Sichuan dishes are very spicy and numbing from Sichuan peppercorns, but milder choices and vegetarian dishes are easy to request. Hotpots offer a clear broth option.
