June to October is best for the north, and September to October is pleasant everywhere. Turpan is extremely hot in July and August, and winters are very cold.
Seven to ten days cover Urumqi, Turpan and Kashgar, with extra days for Kanas Lake. Distances are enormous, so internal flights are needed.
