Pangong Lake, or Pangong Tso, stretches over 130 km across the India-China border at around 4,250 metres. The water shifts between blue, turquoise and green, with bare mountains on every side. The drive via Chang La is long, so most visitors stay in camps at Spangmik or Merak. Nights are very cold, even in summer. A permit is required, and visits run May to September.
