Jambi tour packages combine one of Southeast Asia’s largest ancient Buddhist sites with volcanic highlands and lakes in the heart of Sumatra. The Muaro Jambi Temple Compounds, spread over 3,900 hectares along the Batanghari River, once belonged to the Srivijaya and Malayu kingdoms. In the west, the Kerinci Valley sits beneath Mount Kerinci, Indonesia’s highest volcano, and offers lakes, tea estates and crisp air. The capital, Jambi City, is a handy base for river food and batik. May to September is the drier season.

May to September is the driest period and best for temple visits and treks. Heavy rains from November to February can make the highland roads slow.
Two days cover Jambi City and the Muaro Jambi temples. Allow three to four more for the Kerinci Valley, which is a long drive.
Fly to Jambi's Sultan Thaha Airport via Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. The Muaro Jambi temples are about 26 km from the city by road.
