Kandovan is a village in the Sahand foothills where people live in cone-shaped dwellings carved from volcanic rock. Formed by ancient eruptions, the cones house shops, guesthouses and homes, some of which are open to visitors, with cool interiors and unusual layouts. Mineral springs and narrow stairs lead around the hillside. Kandovan tour packages are popular as a day trip from Tabriz, and the village is a good place to try local honey and herbal teas.
