Mount Alvand is a granite massif that rises more than 3,500 metres above Hamadan, topped with snow into early summer. Hikers climb through valleys and ridges to the summit, and a ski area operates in winter. The upper slopes offer views over the Hamadan plain, and streams and caves dot the lower foothills.
