Markazi Province, meaning Central, lies south-west of Tehran and is known for its carpets, heavy industry and gardens. Its capital Arak is a pleasant city with a traditional bazaar and the Sahat Square.Mahallat is the province’s top attraction, a spa town with hot springs, flower fields and the Khorheh Cave and Jameh Mosque nearby. Visitors will find less foreign tourism here than in neighbouring provinces. Markazi tour packages are best in spring, when the flower fields in Mahallat bloom, and make an easy add-on to Isfahan or Hamadan.
