Qom Province, south of Tehran, is Iran’s second most important Shia pilgrimage city after Mashhad and a major centre of religious learning. At its heart lies the golden-domed Shrine of Fatima Masumeh, sister of Imam Reza, drawing pilgrims throughout the year. The Jamkaran Mosque on the edge of the city is a popular place of devotion on Tuesday nights. Qom is also known for its sohan sweets, made of wheat and saffron, and for its seminaries. Qom tour packages are mostly religious in focus and can be done as a day trip from Tehran.
