Shahr-e Sukhteh, or the Burnt City, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Sistan desert, built around 3200 BCE and inhabited for about a thousand years. Excavations have uncovered houses, workshops, graves and the oldest known artificial eye, along with a backgammon set, a jar with animation-like drawings and signs of trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia.
