Lalish is a valley temple complex in the hills, the holiest place of the Yazidi faith, centred on the tomb of Sheikh Adi. White conical spires rise above stone courtyards and a sacred spring, and visitors remove their shoes before entering. A strong spiritual atmosphere surrounds the valley, particularly at the autumn Feast of the Assembly. Lalish tour packages require respectful behaviour, and visitors should go with a local guide.
