The best places to visit in Ikaho Onsen are the famous stone steps, 365 of them, flanked by ryokan inns, souvenir shops and old-fashioned arcade games. Its golden-brown hot spring water, known as kogane-no-yu, stains towels orange. A short walk leads to the red Chokyo bridge at Lake Haruna, which is attractive in autumn. A traditional yumomi demonstration shows how the waters are cooled by paddles. Ikaho is a 20-minute bus ride from Shibukawa station.
