Ishikawa tour packages are built around Kanazawa, the best-preserved castle town on the Sea of Japan coast, with the landscaped Kenrokuen Garden, the Higashi Chaya geisha district and gold-leaf crafts. South of the city, the Kaga Onsen towns offer long-established hot spring inns. The rugged Noto Peninsula has fishing villages and terraced rice fields, though areas hit by the January 2024 earthquake are still recovering, so check conditions before going. Winter brings snow and crab, and spring brings blossom. Kanazawa is on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line from Tokyo.
