Places to visit in Tono revolve around the folklore collected in the early twentieth century in the book Tono Monogatari. Visitors can cycle through rice fields to thatched farmhouses such as Chiba Family House, look for kappa water spirits at Kappa Fuchi stream and watch horse heritage displays. The Tono Folk Village recreates old life, with storytellers sharing local tales. The town sits in a quiet basin and is best reached by the Kamaishi Line from Hanamaki.
