Kumamoto tour packages feature one of Japan’s mightiest castles and some of Kyushu’s most spectacular scenery. Kumamoto Castle, rebuilt after the 2016 earthquake, stands over the city, while Mount Aso has one of the world’s largest calderas, with a still-active crater. Kurokawa Onsen is a lovely hot spring village with outdoor baths and a pass that lets you bathe at several inns, and Amakusa offers dolphin watching and Christian history. The mascot Kumamon is the local star. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.
