Miyazaki tour packages lead to Kyushu’s sunny Pacific coast and its mythical heartland. Takachiho, deep in the mountains, is a gorge of basalt cliffs where legends say the sun goddess hid in a cave. Aoshima is a small island ringed by ‘Devil’s Washboard’ rock formations, and Miyazaki City offers palm-lined streets, surfing and fresh mango. The climate is warm year round, making it a quieter alternative to Okinawa. The prefecture is less visited, so a rental car or a guided tour is useful.

April to June and September to November are pleasant. Summer is hot but good for beaches, and Takachiho colours in November.

Direct flights from Tokyo Haneda to Miyazaki take around 1 hour 40 minutes. From Fukuoka, the Nichirin limited express takes about 5 hours, so flying is easier.
