Okinawa tour packages take you to Japan’s subtropical islands, far south of the main islands, with turquoise water, coral reefs and a distinct Ryukyu culture. The capital Naha is home to Shuri Castle’s restoration and a busy market street, the Churaumi Aquarium displays whale sharks, and Ishigaki, Miyako and the Kerama Islands offer some of the best beaches and diving in Asia. The climate is warm, and the typhoon season runs from July to October. Okinawa is a good choice for beach holidays after a mainland tour.

April to June and October to November are comfortable for beaches. Swimming is possible from April to October, and typhoons are most likely from August to September.
Three to four days cover Naha, the main island and a day on the Kerama Islands. Add three more for Ishigaki or Miyako.
Direct flights from Tokyo to Naha take about 2 hours 40 minutes. Ishigaki and Miyako are reached by short flights from Naha or directly from Tokyo and Osaka.
