Saitama tour packages offer a calm side trip just north of Tokyo. Kawagoe is known as ‘Little Edo’ for its row of dark clay-walled warehouses and the Bell of Time, while Chichibu in the western mountains hosts shrines, a night festival and the pink moss phlox fields of Hitsujiyama in spring. The Arakawa River gorge at Nagatoro is famous for scenic boat rides and rafting. Saitama is also home to the Railway Museum in Omiya, which appeals to families and train fans alike.

Mid-April to early May for the moss phlox in Chichibu, and November for autumn leaves in Nagatoro and Chichibu. Early December is the time for the Chichibu Night Festival.
A day trip covers Kawagoe, while two days allow Chichibu and Nagatoro as well.
Kawagoe is around 30 minutes from Ikebukuro by express on the Tobu Tojo line. Chichibu is about 80 minutes from Ikebukuro by the Seibu Laview train.
