Wakayama tour packages take you to the spiritual mountains of the Kii Peninsula. Koyasan is the Shingon Buddhist centre where visitors can stay overnight in a temple lodging and walk through a vast misty cemetery. The UNESCO-listed Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails wind through forest to ancient shrines, while Nachi Falls is Japan’s tallest single-drop waterfall. On the coast, Shirahama has white sand beaches and hot springs. Wakayama is well suited to quiet, nature-minded travellers and is about two hours from Osaka.
