AlUla is a desert oasis in north-west Saudi Arabia, surrounded by red sandstone canyons and ancient tombs. The Old Town has restored mud-brick lanes with cafés and art spaces, while Maraya, a vast mirrored concert hall, reflects the desert. Visitors can take hot-air balloon flights, jeep tours and stargazing evenings, and winter brings the Winter at Tantora festival.
