Rafha is a desert town in the Northern Borders Region, close to the Iraqi frontier. It grew around the Trans-Arabian Pipeline and has a quiet, practical feel, with markets and mosques. The surrounding gravel plains and low dunes are typical of the northern steppe, and winter brings short-lived green growth after rain.
