Phayao tour packages are an easy, laid-back way to experience a lake town in northern Thailand. Kwan Phayao, the largest freshwater lake in the north, glows at sunrise and sunset, and the promenade around it is lined with cafes and food stalls. On the shore, Wat Si Khom Kham houses an enormous seated Buddha that was cast in the 16th century and a well-known mural. The province is green, hilly and uncrowded, and it feels like a calm halfway stop between Chiang Rai and Nan.
