Saraburi tour packages connect Bangkok with the northeast and offer more heritage and nature than most travellers expect. The province’s most revered site is Wat Phra Phutthabat, a hilltop temple housing a giant footprint said to be the Buddha’s. Nearby, Namtok Sam Lan National Park has forest trails and a cool waterfall for a half-day picnic. In winter, fields of sunflowers add colour to the roadside, and the province also borders the Khao Yai area for those continuing north-east. It is an easy stop for pilgrims and nature lovers.

November to February is best for sunflowers and comfortable temperatures. Waterfalls flow strongest at the end of the rainy season, around September to November.
Half a day to one day is enough for the footprint temple and the national park. It is often visited on the way to Khao Yai or Lop Buri.
Fly into Bangkok from India and drive about 1.5 to 2 hours north. Trains to Saraburi also run from Bangkok.
