January to September is the best period for the Gulf islands, with a dry spell from February to April. Khao Sok is lush and green from May to November, but October to December is the wettest time on the coast.
Four to six nights suit Koh Samui and a day trip, while a week or more lets you add Koh Phangan, Koh Tao or Khao Sok.
Fly into Bangkok from India and take a domestic flight to Koh Samui or Surat Thani, about 1 hour 10 minutes. From Surat Thani, ferries and buses reach the islands.
