Trat tour packages open the door to Thailand’s far south-eastern islands, which are quieter and more forested than the better-known Andaman resorts. Koh Chang, the country’s second-largest island, has jungle-covered mountains, waterfalls and long beaches such as White Sand Beach. Koh Kood and Koh Mak are slower and more secluded, with calm bays and small resorts. Because the province lies near the Cambodian border, travellers should check current advisories for border areas, but the islands themselves are popular with Thai and foreign visitors alike.

Visa-free for short tourist stays (30 to 60 days; check latest rules; Digital Arrival Card required)
November to February is the best period for island hopping, with dry weather and calm seas. The monsoon from June to October brings heavy rain and many boat services slow down.
Four to five nights suit Koh Chang alone, and a week allows a stay on Koh Kood or Koh Mak.
Fly into Bangkok from India and either fly to Trat or drive about 5 hours east to the Laem Ngop ferry piers. Road-and-ferry packages are common.
