Uttaradit tour packages cover a quiet province in the lower north, between Phitsanulok and Phrae, which is known for its fruit and forested hills. The big Sirikit Dam creates a vast reservoir, ideal for boat trips and floating guesthouse stays. The province is also famous for its durian, langsat and tamarind, and for its quiet riverside towns. The scene is rural and relaxed, and visitors seldom meet other foreigners, which helps for a peaceful stop on the road to the north.

Visa-free for short tourist stays (30 to 60 days; check latest rules; Digital Arrival Card required)
November to February is cool and dry, with great light on the reservoir. May to July is fruit season, with stalls selling durian and mangosteen along the road.
One day is enough for the dam and lake. It works well as a stop between Sukhothai and Nan.
Fly into Bangkok from India, then connect to Phitsanulok and drive about 1.5 hours. Trains between Bangkok and Chiang Mai also stop at Uttaradit.
