Gordion was the capital of ancient Phrygia, the kingdom of the legendary King Midas, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The highlight is the enormous Midas Mound, a burial mound containing one of the oldest wooden tomb chambers in the world. A small museum displays furniture, bronzes and pottery from the tomb. The site lies near Polatlı, roughly 85 km south-west of Ankara.
