Elazığ tour packages combine the ancient fortress town of Harput with the deep blue waters of Lake Hazar, in the upper Euphrates basin of eastern Anatolia. Harput was an important city under the Urartians, Byzantines and Seljuks, and its hilltop citadel, mosques and tombs hint at that long history.Hazar Lake is a high mountain lake surrounded by apricot orchards and villages, and the huge Keban reservoir offers boat trips and fresh fish. Winters are long and cold, so travel from late spring to early autumn. It works well as a stop on a loop through Malatya, Tunceli and Diyarbakır.
