Old Mardin is a hillside maze of narrow lanes, stone archways and flat-roofed houses, with sweeping views across the Mesopotamian plain to Syria. Key sights include the Kasımiye Madrasa, the Ulu Mosque, the vaulted Revaklı bazaar and the Zinciriye Madrasa. Syriac Christians, Arabs and Kurds have lived side by side here for centuries. Enjoy sunset from a rooftop terrace and try local dishes such as ikbebet.
