Van Castle, or Tushpa, is a long rock outcrop beside Lake Van with Urartian inscriptions, rock-cut tombs and Ottoman fortifications. Stairs lead to the top, where the view over the lake and old city site is particularly good at sunset. The inscription of King Argishti, carved in cuneiform, can be seen on the rock. The ruined old Van city lies at the foot, with a mosque and tombs.
