November to April is best for hiking and the zip-line, with cooler weather on Jebel Jais. Summer is hot at sea level, though the mountain stays several degrees cooler.
Two to three nights are enough for Jebel Jais, the beaches and the old town. Many travellers also visit as a day trip from Dubai.
The drive takes about one hour by road, and buses and taxis run regularly. Indian packages usually include a private transfer.
