Tam Coc means “three caves”, and the boat ride along the Ngo Dong River passes through three low caves between rice fields. The trip lasts about two hours, with boatmen who sometimes paddle with their feet. Nearby, the cliff-side Bich Dong Pagoda and the viewpoint of Hang Mua with its 500 steps reward the effort with big views over the countryside. Visit in late May or early June for golden paddies.
