Mai Chau is a peaceful valley in the Hoa Binh area, home to the White Thai community. Visitors stay in stilt-house homestays at Lac Village and Pom Coong, ride bicycles through rice paddies, and watch evening dance shows. The best months are May and June for green fields and September and October for gold. Food is simple, with grilled river fish and sticky rice.
