Ly Son is a volcanic island off the Quang Ngai coast, known for its clear sea, black basalt cliffs and fields of purple garlic. Visitors walk or cycle around the Thoi Loi crater, see the Hang Pagoda carved into a cave, and swim at quiet beaches such as Mong Beach. The island is also an old centre for the Hoang Sa soldier tradition. Boats run all year but are best between March and August. Two nights is a good stay.
