Khe Sanh is a highland area near the Laos border where a major battle took place in 1968. The Khe Sanh Combat Base museum displays tanks, aircraft and bunkers, and the surrounding hills are planted with coffee and pepper. Local Bru-Van Kieu communities live in the nearby villages. Most visits come as a day tour from Hue or Dong Ha along the old Highway 9. Visit in the dry months, when roads are good and the weather is clear.
